Pastor Steven
A recent review from a fellow mando player:

Hi Pastor Steven,
this has nothing to do with this tune in particular, but I wanted to share with you that I have had a couple of stressful days and today on my way home from work I decided to listen to a collection of your tunes that I have on my iPod and it soothed me so much.  What a beautifully relaxing way to drive home.  You play with such a nice tone and touch and your music is soothing to listen to.  Just wanted you to know it brought me home in a much better frame of mind.

thank you!

Concerning my poem "Original Intent"

"the narrow road is different for every believer". You nailed it in that one sentence, Pastor! Recognizing that alone will free us from a LOT of worries. Thank you. I needed to hear that too.

You have arrived at Pastor Steven Wright Clarkson's home page. LovePrayObey, formally known as chocteemusic, was founded in 2012. LovePrayObey and his "Urban Space Fusion" is Steven's way of giving back just some of the love he has found in his relationship with the Holy Trinity. It is an active ministry with the musical portion having been established in 2007.

Steven sees a distinct correlation between music and continuing on the narrow path. Music is not only healing, but can bring you into a closer relationship with the Trinity. Steven's music has evolved greatly over the last 16 years. Steven's hope is that you find some peace and solice while listening to his recordings.

God's Beauty (Why do we suffer - click below)

The music has been coined "Urban Space Fusion" based on the fact that Steven has lived most his life in big cities, but has traveled the world, met many people through living in both South Korea and Japan, and has listened extensively to a wide range of music - and this time spent tasting different genres of sound has influenced his playing.

As his music is world focused, elements of all of his travels and life experiences add to the mix.

You can also hear parts of his albums not highlighted on this site at the link above (Yes, the Rock Garden is a link :) )

Steven has also written a book, "The Wounded Dove", which is described on this site. There are a few reviews posted there as well along with his testimony, Bible studies, and writings.

Steven's main instrument is the mandolin which he has been playing since 1996. Steven hopes that your time here is filled with peace and joy. Jesus Christ is King!

4And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. 5And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful 6And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.

Romans 12New International Version (NIV)
A Living Sacrifice

12 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Revelation 22:10-12 (King James Version)  10And he saith unto me, Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand.

11He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.

A Few of My Favorite Verses

 1 John 2:15-17 KJV

[15] Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. [16] For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. [17] And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

James 4:4 KJV

Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

Inspiration behind "Fertile Ground":

Mark 4:5-8 And some fell on stony ground, where it had not much earth; and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth: But when the sun was up, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away. And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit. And other fell on good ground, and did yield fruit that sprang up and increased; and brought forth, some thirty, and some sixty, and some an hundred.

Kala U Bass

After doing a lot of research for an instrument for my daughter to play, I decided on a Kala U Bass. She thought it was too small (she's 10 and petite) and said she wanted to play a real guitar. As a result, I am learning to play bass and have already recorded 3 songs with it. Mandolin is tuned in 5ths and the bass 4ths so there is a little bit of a learning curve, but I am starting, after a week, to get used to it. For the price and size of this little instrument, it's a winner. Blessings,

Pastor Steven

A Moment in Time and The Mountain - 2 CD set

If you would like a copy of my 2cd set, including "A Moment in Time" and "The Mountain", just email me and my finances allow I will send you a free copy.

The liner notes are as follows:

"A Moment in Time" and "The Mountain" - by Pastor Steven Wright Clarkson
The titles, the 17 tracks on "A Moment in Time," and the 22 tracks on "The Mountain" are intended to suggest that bliss during our life in this world can only be measured as an ephemeral moment, such as one might experience for those few moments atop the high peak of a mountain. Eternity, on the other hand, suggests a timeless state, and Eternity with the Holy Trinity suggests a moment we can each look forward to, and which  will be forever blissful.

I came up with the melody lines first, before reverting to my usual state of attempting to avoid preconceived notions about how each song should come out, with the idea that I would be leaving room for the Holy Spirit to work His wonders in my music.

The inspiration for this music is driven by the notion that Jesus was here on earth for only a moment in time - a time during which he often went to the mountains to pray - and that God's Spirit, the Comforter, is with us now.  I tried to write these songs in a way that captures the joy we experience in knowing what Jesus accomplished in his short 33 years on this earth, and in knowing that His gift is still is available to embrace today - much like the way one might be overwhelmed with the beauty of an incredible vista on the top of a mountain, but even better - since nothing on earth can compare to the indwelling of the Holy Spirit and a real relationship with Christ.  Much of the inspiration for this music also stems from my own personal experiences, such as hiking in the Himalayas with my dad - incredible experiences to be certain, but experiences which would not have been the same without the Holy Trinity.

The portions of this music with a faster rhythm are intended to represent for many of us the necessity to fill our life with one thing after another.  Many of us feel the need to have something going on all the time, and without this constant stimulus, they feel lost.  Christ wants us to spend devotional time with Him - time spent without the chaos that is this fallen world. Not that any of my music is extremely fast or nonstop like the world around us, but I like to think it could be used in devotional or worship settings.  That is for you the listener to judge.

On "A Moment in Time", the alternating sounds of the talking drum on the even numbered tracks  are intended to represent the variety of cultures and people that have surrendered their lives to Christ. That the drums, with the exception of one track, follow the mandolin's cadence and feel, is intended to suggest that no matter what we want, The Lord and His eternal Will cannot be compromised. Eternity is a reality.

The slower portions of this music are intended to represent a more meditative stance and can be likened to meditating on patience, long suffering, and empathy.

Each recording uses a different mandolin. "A Moment in Time" uses "Hope", my 2011 Gilchrist A Model, while "The Mountain" uses a Grady F. Two excellent instruments, which provide very different sounds. I wrote, played, produced, and recorded every track on both of these albums, and produced all of the artwork as well.  I own a few mistakes as well - these are completely live tracks with no overdubbing, and the songs were unrehearsed - sometimes requiring more than one take as the improvisational process can lead to timing and fretting mistakes - but I like to think that these albums are pretty cleanly recorded.  I thank the good Lord for the ability to play, record, and share these albums with you; nothing can be accomplished without His loving presence.

This experiment in timing and space can only be heard at Mandohangout in the forum section under the "Sound Off" section - free to stream and download there - I really like this one, but it's a personal thing for sure!

The Grace Collection

My newest project, "The Grace Collection", is now available. It consists of the 5 cds I had replicated professionally last year. These are the only cds I have ever had replicated (not duplicated - look it up on the internet if you don't know the difference) and represent my continued effort to follow the Lord's will for my life. The number 5 is associated with "Grace" throughout the Bible. More about it and pictures of it can be found on the "Musical Journey" section of this site. Email me for more details.

Four New Albums and a Reissue

Steven has three new professionally made (replicated) cds available ("Color It Simple" ,"Sometimes", "The Unseen" and "Fatherhood") - all acoustic solo mandolin. These will be the first albums he has had replicated professionally. They are available for a suggested donation of your choice - no donation is necessary. The albums have been a blessing to many people and Steven looks forward to sharing his gifts with you. He has also renamed "Journey of a Christian's Heart" - now called "The Prism", it was professionally mastered and is replicated (in other words, It's available now). I have coupled all 4 albums plus "Color it Simple" together in a special casing - Email for details.
